The number of people killed in the crash of a passenger train "Nevsky Express, en route from Moscow to St. Petersburg increased up to 39. The accident occurred near the station Bologoye on Friday evening. A terrorist act is considered as a basic version of the crash.
Previously, Ministry of Emergencies of Russia reported about 25 dead, but information was received that another 14 bodies were found in one of the carriages turned over. 96 people were wounded with the state more than half of the wounded is deteriorating. Most of passengers received mechanical traumas, fractures of extremities and spine. All the victims were evacuated from the tragedy site and taken to the nearest hospitals of St. Petersburg, Borovichi, Valdai and town Bologoye. The fate of 18 passengers is unkmown. Relatives of the victims are still in a state of shock.
It became known that crash killed two high-ranking federal officials, Sergei Tarassov former senator from St. Petersburg, who recently worked as head of state company “Russian automobile roads” and head of the Federal Agency for State Reserves Boris Yevstratikov. It is virtually already confirmed that the cause of the accident was a terrorist attack. A crater with diameter of one meter was discovered on rails. It is supposed self-made explosive device was detonated by an electric locomotive of “Nevsky Express”. And the last 3 carriages derailed and overturned. According to the order of Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, Rashid Nurgaliyev, people involved in the crash are searched for in nearby towns. It is known that for 40 minutes before the accident in this place another train proceeded smoothly in the same direction.

Vladimir Yakunin, President of “Russian railways” OJSC:
- The main version is investigated, it is version of blasting of unknown device by unknown persons. Simply to say, a terrorist act.

Vladimr Yakunin also said that undermining of train resembles a similar incident 3 years ago. On August 13 2007, Nevsky Express crashed in the Novgorod region. The cause of emergency was an explosive device on rails. 60 people were injured but nobody died. Then two Chechens were detained on suspicion of terrorist attack, they are associated with the group of field commander Doku Umarov. The defendants have not yet been convicted, but they face up to 20 years imprisonment. There were 13 passenger cars and restaurant-carriage in “Nevsky Express” which derailed on Friday night. And 661 tickets were sold.
Ilyas Omarov, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says there are no Kazakhstani citizens among the injured in train crash that was following the route Moscow-Saint Petersburg.

- Mostly citizens of Russia are among the deaths and injuries. There is only one foreign citizen, a citizen of Italy. According to our information, there are no yet citizens of Kazakhstan among the victims. We gave necessary instructions to connect with our consular department of embassy of RK in Moscow and the consulate general in St. Petersburg.
