«Khabar» television channel
The «Khabar» television channel was established in 1995 on the base of the Kazakh Television news service. Its initial name was the National Television News Agency (NTNA). Today it is the country’s leading national channel that broadcasts in Kazakh and Russian to over 13 million potential viewers. Over 600 employees work at the company.
The priority in broadcasting is news. The main principles for presenting news include immediacy, exclusiveness, completeness, and objectivity. News programs constitute up to one third of total air time. Over two hundred people work in the news department. Information is gathered from 14 «Khabar» correspondent bureaus in Kazakhstan, and five more in the CIS states. News is also reported from 12 key countries in the Northern hemisphere. As a result, the scale of the Agency’s correspondent network is more extensive than any other news company in Kazakhstan. Despite this fact, «Khabar» continues to regularly expand the number of its foreign bureaus. Along with its own information, the company actively uses the resources of the world’s leading news agencies through partner programs.
Public information, entertainment, music, sport, and other programs produced by the Agency also enjoy wide popularity.
Soap operas, documentaries, and feature films broadcast on the channel invariably enjoy high ratings. The channel also schedules movies of many different genres; from artistic films to block-busters.
«Khabar» is the country’s only TV-channel that organizes live transmission of world sporting competitions. The Agency’s technical base allows it to transmit important political and cultural events live on location.
